Tawau immigration office extra crowded

TAWAU: The district immigration office here was significantly crowded today, with many visitors lining up from the counters to the lobby.

A check at the immigration department saw people on the third floor of Wisma Persekutuan as early as 6.30am. The counter usually opens at 8am.

At noon, people remained in their line although counter for the queue number was closed for lunch until 2pm.

It is learnt that the huge crowd came on the heels of the restricted movement order which will come into force tomorrow.

A department staff, who declined to be named, said many of the visitors were confused about the order as some thought the immigration office would be closed.

"Many came today to settle various matters relating to their Visa and extension of IMM13 pass holders, among others.

"It became even more crowded when IMM13 pass holders turned up to renew their passes despite the expiration date being next April."

A private sector staff who wished to be known only as Azman, 45, said he came to the Immigration office at 9.30am and got his queue number an hour later.

"Even though there were many people before my turn, I don't mind waiting to settle my business today," he said.
