KUALA LUMPUR: Health Ministry aims to gather 300 samples daily from two Covid-19 affected areas in Simpang Renggam, Kluang in Johor, starting today.
Its director-general Datuk Noor Hisham Abdullah said as of 12pm today, there are 88 positive cases in Kluang district with 74 of them were found to be from the two areas, Kampung Dato’ Ibrahim Majid and Bandar Baharu Dato’ Ibrahim Majid, which are now under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).
Based on investigations made earlier, the ministry found there are four clusters from Kampung Dato Ibrahim Majid dan Bandar Baharu Dato Ibrahim Majid.
It involves four individuals who had attended the tabligh gathering in Seri Petaling and also went for a wedding in the two areas.
“We are aiming to collect 300 sample tests and will prioritise those identified as close contacts, those who are showing symptoms and people who are at risk of infection,” he said during a live telecast of the press conference.
Noor Hisham said the EMCO is aimed at curbing any new infection, breaking the chain of Covid-19 infection and allowing disinfection process and active case detection based on each house.
He added that the Klinik Desa Dato’ Ibrahim Majid will resume its operations as usual while any emergency cases will be coordinated by the Medical Emergency Coordinating Centre (MECC).
For disinfection and cleaning works at public areas, Noor Hisham said that it will be done under the Local Government and Housing Ministry with the collaboration of the Simpang Renggam district council.
The residents will also receive information on how to properly disinfect their homes.
As of today, Noor Hisham said 130 new Covid-19 cases have been recorded, bringing the number to 2,161.
He said a total of 54 patients were being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 34 of them placed under ventilator support.
Yesterday, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob issued an Enhanced Movement Control (EMC) Order for two areas in Simpang Renggam, Kluang in Johor due to the high number of Covid-19 cases detected there.
The order has been enforced from midnight to April 9, and will affect 3,570 residents from 650 families.
