KUALA LUMPUR: Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Muslim wedding solemnisation (akad nikah) ceremonies can proceed with 250 guests at a time.
He said there had been confusion among the public with regard to the nikah ceremony which was not stated under social events allowed to proceed with no more than 250 guests starting July 1, during his announcement last week.
"The Special Cabinet meeting had agreed to allow no more than 250 guests for wedding ceremonies and akad nikah to be held at mosques, halls, homes, or other venues.
"The guest limit must be based on the size and capacity (of the venue) as well as adherence to the standard operating procedure (SOP)," he said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.
Ismail Sabri added that the government also allowed other religions to hold wedding ceremonies at houses of worship and premises of religious associations.
These ceremonies must also follow the SOP issued by the National Unity Ministry.
