Heavier than usual morning crawls as CMCO roadblocks slow traffic into Shah Alam, KL

KUALA LUMPUR: Two access roads leading into Shah Alam city saw bumper-to-bumper traffic for almost 1km today due to roadblocks mounted to control movement under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

A crawl was reported at the Hicom junction near Persiaran Kuala Selangor where a police roadblock was mounted for motorists entering Shah Alam.

A Shah Alam Highway (Kesas) spokesman said the traffic congestion slowly improved and situation was back to normal by 10.30am.

At the same time, Bernama said heavy traffic was reported at the Setia Alam toll plaza exit towards Subang, where another roadblock was mounted this morning.

Meanwhile, a Projek Lebuhraya Utara-Selatan (Plus) highway spokesman said traffic was also heavy in both directions with motorists entering into the city experiencing slower movement than usual at the Sungai Besi toll plaza this morning.

The situation, however, had abated by 9.30am.

"After 9.30am, traffic was back to normal and smooth in both (directions). However, at the Jalan Duta toll plaza where a roadblock was mounted by city traffic police, congestion was reported as not all lanes were opened for motorists.

"The situation improved before 11am. Currently, there is no major congestion on any of the stretches along Plus highways," he said.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement Investigation Department (TEID) chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkefly Yahya said his department had set up roadblocks at four locations - the Jalan Duta and Sungai Besi toll plazas, Jalan Syed Putra and Jalan Genting Klang.

"Our men have been assigned to man the roadblocks starting from today until the CMCO is lifted. One officer and 10 traffic policemen will be assigned to each location," he said.

The CMCO in Selangor, KL and Putrajaya is currently being enforced for 14 days from today until Oct 27 to curb the spread of Covid-19 following the recent spike in the number of cases.

Soldiers and Civil Defence Force members will also be assisting police in surveillance operations and at roadblocks.

Other roadblock locations are Lebuh Sentosa (near the National Cancer Institute heading towards the Maju Expressway, or MEX); Persiaran Selatan heading towards Dengkil; Persiaran Utara second exit leading to Kajang; Persiaran Utara third exit to Puchong; Serdang towards Equine Park; LDP Puchong to Sunway; and, Sunway to LDP Puchong;

Roadblocks have also be set up in Kota Damnsara heading to Sungai Buloh; Bandar Kinrara BK5; Alam Damai Cheras; the Middle Ring Road 2; Klang; Meru; Bukit Jelutong NKVE toll into Shah Alam; Jalan Sultan Ismail (in front of Sungai Wang Plaza); Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman; Jalan Ampang; and, some other places.
