Kota Kinabalu hotel offers 'Super Deal' on its culinary delights

KOTA KINABALU: City dwellers here now have the option of enjoying delicious hotel food at affordable prices.

The Palace Hotel Kota Kinabalu here has set up a "Super Deal" food stall at its car park area, selling various foods and beverages at RM5 each.

Its general manager, Chloe Loo, said the project, which began on Feb 1, is the hotel's corporate social responsibility programme to help everyone, especially those affected by the pandemic.

"There are two reasons for this. One is to help our employees (in terms of employment) and also their families and relatives who are affected.

"By doing this, people can afford to buy food without having to spend much," she said, adding that the stall has received a good response not only from families and friends, but also city folk.

The stall is open daily, except on Sundays, from 11am until 6pm. However, the food, especially rice sets, usually sells out quickly.

Loo said that their bestselling items are ayam penyet and rendang, with customers continuing to return for them.

Other menu items include banana fritters, chicken wings, sandwiches, fried noodles, cendol, iced juices and teh tarik.

She added that the stall has an express lane for those ordering less than six packs of food items.

In addition, the staff will direct patrons to wait in the hotel for the kitchen to prepare bulk orders.

Despite the cheap prices, Loo said that the hotel still manages to make some profit from the deals.

"By getting discounts from suppliers and adjusting prices, we still manage to cope with our operations.

"We will continue to have this stall until the end of the Movement Control Order or until dining in is allowed again."
