KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia registered 4,113 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the tally to 462,190 since the pandemic hit the country.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 1,269, followed by Sarawak with 533 and 371 in Kelantan.
In Sabah, there are 53 cases, 335 in Johor, 306 in Kuala Lumpur, 266 in Penang, 124 in Negri Sembilan, 147 in Perak, 228 in Kedah, 107 in Melaka, 178 in Pahang, 165 in Terengganu, 6 in Labuan, 20 in Putrajaya and 5 in Perlis.
Meanwhile, 34 more of the novel coronavirus related deaths were reported to the national Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CRPC) as of noon today. The death toll is now 1,822.
"Of the overall new cases, 4,112 are local transmissions involving 3,791 Malaysians while the rest are foreigners. One import case involving a foreigner was detected today," he said in a post on his Twitter account.
"There are 482 patients being treated in Intensive Care Units, of which 250 are intubated. The total number of active cases are 41,471," he added.
On the fatalities recorded today, Dr Noor Hisham said eight deaths were in Selangor, six each in Johor and Kuala Lumpur, four in Kelantan, three in Kedah, two in Sabah, two in Melaka and one each in Sarawak, Perak and Terengganu.
They were aged between 45 and 84 and had a history of medical issues ranging from diabetes, high blood pressure, heart to chronic kidney diseases.
On clusters, 13 new ones have been identified in Selangor, Terengganu, Pahang, Johor, Sarawak, Kedah, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Penang.
Dr Noor Hisham said there are four workplace related clusters, four community, two religious, one higher education, one private learning institution registered under the Education Ministry and another involving a high risk group.
The workplace cluster with the largest number of infections among factory workers is at Jalan Perindustrian Balakong in Hulu Langat, Selangor.
"There are 138 factory workers who had contracted the virus after targeted screenings were conducted at the premises in the Balakong Jaya Light Industrial Area in Seri Kembangan," he said, adding a total of 276 tests were done.
For the community cluster, Dr Noor Hisham said the Bukit Pauh infections involved the Dungun, Kuala Nerus and Kuala Terengganu districts in Terengganu, the Kuantan district in Pahang and the Petaling district in Selangor.
"There are 36 positive cases after the index case, a local man aged 33 was reported positive on May 8 after showing symptoms six days earlier. The cluster name refers to the locality of where the index patient resides which is located in Kampung Bukit Pauh, Bukit Tiong, Dungun," he said.
As for Covid-19 transmissions among the high risk group, Dr Noor Hisham said the Lebuh Katz Cluster in the Timur Laut district in Penang registered 36 positive cases.
He said it involved the workers and two senior citizens living in a home in Georgetown.
The cluster's index case, a 68-year-old man, was reported positive on May 10 after showing symptoms three days prior.
Dr Noor Hisham said the 13 new clusters raised the total number of clusters to 1,861 nationwide, of which 461 are active.
