IPOH: Perak Mufti Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria was laid to rest at the Kampung Rapat Jaya Muslim Cemetery here at 6.20pm today.
Harussani, 82, who died of Covid-19 at 2.45 today at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) was transported to the cemetery at about 6pm.
The burial process was handled by some 10 personnel from the state Health Department, who were wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
However, Harussani's family members and journalists were not allowed at the burial ground as per coronavirus standard operating procedure (SOP).
It was reported that Harussani who tested positive for Covid-19 was treated for the last two weeks, and had received treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of HRPB here.
On Aug 23 last year, Harussani suffered from a stroke after waking up to perform the Subuh prayer. The stroke had affected the right side of his body and his ability to speak.
Harussani holds several positions at both state and federal level.
These include chairman of the Censorship of Islamic Publications committee, Al Quran Text Board deputy chairman and member of the National Fatwa Council.
He leaves behind his wife Puan Seri Abdul Ghani and four children.
