1 killed, 4 injured in 5 vehicle crash in Simpang Pulai [NSTTV]

IPOH: The driver of a lorry carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) was killed while four others sustained injuries in a five vehicle crash at KM288.6 of the North-South Expressway near Simpang Pulai here last night.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said they were alerted to the incident at 10.01pm.

"A team of firemen from Simpang Pulai, assisted by the Fire and Rescue Department's Hazardous Materials Unit ( Hazmat) from Pasir Puteh were dispatched to the scene.

"Upon arrival, there were five lorries involved in the accident including the lorry carrying LPG.

"Two people were pinned to their seats and we managed to help one victim who sustained injuries to his legs while another was pronounced dead at the scene," he said.

He said firemen had to use special equipment to get them out from their vehicles.

"We were also assisted by the Hazmat team from Pasir Puteh to ensure no chemical leak was detected on the LPG tank," he said adding that the operation ended at 1.10am.

All the victims were taken to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for further treatment and the deceased's body was handed to the police for further action.
