JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) seized three containers carrying buffalo meat from India at Pasir Gudang Port yesterday (June 24).
Johor Maqis director Hizzuan Hasim said an inspection at 2pm found that the seal number on the containers did not match the number on the bill of lading that was declared.
"All the meat weighing about 83,988 kilogrammes and valued at about RM1.3 million were seized for further action," said Hizzuan.
He said the case will be investigated under Section 13 of the Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 for importing agricultural products by submitting permit and license, declarations or other documents that are false, inaccurate or confusing to Maqis.
"The offence carries a fine of not more than RM50,000 or a jail term not exceeding two years or both, upon conviction," said Hizzuan.
He said Maqis is committed to enforce the law at all entry points in the country so the disease control of animals, fish and plants as well as food safety standards are preserved and meet all the conditions and regulations.
