KUALA LUMPUR: More than 90 per cent of the new Covid-19 cases reported today are in Category 1 and 2, in which patients only display mild symptoms or none at all.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 98.3 per cent or 16, 556 cases were in Category 1 and 2.
"Out of the 16,840 daily Covid-19 cases recorded today, 284 cases or 1.7 per cent were in Category 3, 4 and 5. This is based on the current clinical situation of those who were diagnosed with the coronavirus.
"There are patients who remained in the same category throughout the period of the infection but some either deteriorate or move to a less critical category," he said.
Category 3 is when the patients have pneumonia and require observation by healthcare workers while Category 4 is when the patients require oxygen.
Category 5 patients, meanwhile, are in critical condition and need ventilator support.
Dr Noor Hisham said out of 8,146 Category 1 patients, 91 per cent or 7,409 do not have any vaccination history as of July 30.
"There were 69.9 per cent (5,854) from 8,410 Category 2 patients who have not received any vaccination yet.
"A total of 68.9 per cent (124) of 180 Category 3 patients also have yet to be inoculated. Also, 66 people from 79 Category 4 patients have yet to be immunised while 24 out of 25 Category 5 patients did not receive any vaccine doses," he said.
