Civil servants urged to remain neutral amid Malaysia's political turmoil

KUALA LUMPUR: Civil servants have been reminded to remain neutral amid the country's political turmoil to ensure government delivery services continue smoothly.

Public Service Department director-general Tan Sri Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman said all heads of departments have been instructed to carry on with their duties in line with the current policies.

"As part of the democratic process, changes in the political landscape should not influence the public delivery service. All civil servants are reminded not to get involved in the ongoing political turmoil.

"We must always remain neutral and avoid politicking. The loyalty of civil servants is to the king, country and the government.

"Regardless of the levels and positions we serve in, civil servants must provide the best service to the people and the country," he said in a statement today.

Khairul stressed that civil servants must carry on with their responsibilities and duties in their respective departments and ministries as usual to implement ongoing development projects, programmes to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic, the vaccination programme and the country's recovery plan.

He pledged that civil servants will ensure that the government delivery services will remain smooth and intact while the country works towards a political solution.

Earlier today, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin tendered his resignation as the Prime Minister, along with his cabinet, to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

The King has accepted their resignation and consented for Muhyiddin to serve as the caretaker prime minister until his successor is appointed.
