Witness: Two landslides hit Taman Bukit Permai

KUALA LUMPUR: It was not one, but two landslides that struck Taman Bukit Permai, according to witnesses today.

Eyewitness Azril Sham Mohamed, 50, said both incidents happened within a short period of time, while it was drizzling.

"I had just come home from my workplace in Bangi at around 6pm when I was startled by a rumbling and saw the rushing earth. I quickly gathered my wife and child and fled."

Azril who had been living in the neighbourhood for 13 years said this was the first time that a landslide had struck.

At least four people were believed to have been trapped in the landslide that struck this evening, though Fire and Rescue Department officers say there may be a fifth victim.

An 87-year-old man was rescued first, but the second victim, believed to be the man's 85-year-old wife, was found dead about 9pm.

The remaining three are believed to be two residents of a double-storey terrace house and an Air Selangor contractor who was conducting repairs.

A total of 10 vehicles and 15 houses were affected in the neighbourhood in Ampang, near here.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said a fire engine with nine personnel from the Pandan fire station was deployed to the scene as soon as a distress call was received at 5.54pm.
