KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today announced a special Hari Raya Aidilfitri aid of RM500 to all civil servants of Grade 56 and below, which will be paid out on April 25.
In a statement today, he said this includes those under the Contract of Service and Contract for Service schemes as well as part-time Daily Officers and those appointed under the MyStep scheme.
Ismail Sabri said the government has also decided to provide a special RM250 financial aid to all government retirees.
"The payment of this special assistance will be made together with the April salary on Apr 25.
"The special assistance involves an allocation of RM923 million and will benefit more than two million civil servants and retirees," he said.
He said the government decided to channel the Aidilfitri financial assistance earlier this year to enable all civil servants to plan their holidays ahead.
"This assistance is provided as an appreciation to their services and sacrifices in shouldering the responsibility of delivering services to the Malaysian Family.
"The government hopes that the special assistance will ease the financial burden on civil servants and retirees and serve as a catalyst for them to continue to serve with full dedication," he said.
Muslims in Malaysia began fasting for the Ramadan month on Sunday. Hari Raya celebration is expected on May 3.
