Man dies in collision, soon-to-be fiancée seriously injured

KEMAMAN: A man was killed while his soon-to-be fiancée seriously injured in an accident at KM105 of Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan, near the Terengganu Crude Oil Terminal, last night.

The couple was believed to have been returning home after purchasing their engagement rings.

In the 11pm accident, Muhammad Alif Hafizzudin Samsul, from Kampung Bukit Kuang Kemaman, died at the scene.

His soon-to-be fiancée, aged in her 20s and from Kampung Seberang Pintasan Dungun, was seriously injured and rushed to Kemaman Hospital for further treatment.

Kemaman police chief Superintendent Hanyan Ramlan said at the time of the incident, the two victims were travelling in a Proton Wira from the direction of Kerteh towards Dungun.

He said the accident was believed to have occurred when a Mazda MPV from the direction of Dungun to Kemaman suddenly lost control and crossed the road divider.

"The MPV entered the right lane of the opposite road and collided with the Wira.

"The impact caused the Wira to be crushed and later overturned," he said.

Hanyan said, at the time of the incident, the victim was said to be on his way to send his fiancée back to Dungun after they purchased their engagement rings in Kemaman.

"A team of firemen from the Kerteh Fire and Rescue station was called and it took the team 30 minutes to remove the trapped victims.

"The victim, who suffered head and body injuries was confirmed dead by medical officers at the scene," he said.

He said the woman, who was seriously injured in the face and head, was taken by ambulance to Kemaman Hospital for further treatment.

"The victim's body has been handed over to his family members for funeral arrangements."

"The case is being investigated according to Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
