NILAI: The waterfall near Kampung Sungai Mahang, which is a recreational spot, is now polluted and full of rubbish.
The location is also a place for drunkards at night where bottles and cans are strewn around the waterfall. There are also diapers, plastic bags and food and beverage containers.
Visitor Mohd Adzri Abdullah, 52, said he was very disappointed with his first visit to the area because of rubbish strewn all over the place.
"When one mentions a waterfall, what comes to mind is a beautiful area which is clean with fresh air and cooling water.
"However, upon arriving at the place, my family and I were shocked to see piles of rubbish here and there.
"If some irresponsible visitors start leaving rubbish in one spot, other people follow suit. I think this happens at most recreational spots and it is very disappointing," said Adzri.
He said the piles of rubbish have attracted flies and rats, which poses a risk of diseases such as Leptospirosis.
A resident Muhammad Jailani Ahmad Zawawi, 34, claimed the area began to get 'dirtier' since the pandemic hit.
He said so much rubbish was left behind that the Orang Asli in nearby areas have also complained about the problem.
Visitor Muhammad Maula Mohd Kamal Bahrin, 32, said it was sad that people were littering the place.
"It shows a lack of consideration and of civic-mindedness. By right they should have their own rubbish bags and clean up after themselves and not leave any rubbish behind.
"When visiting the area in the afternoon, there are many dogs that dig up food leftovers from the heaps of rubbish. The presence of the stray dogs is already a nuisance and eyesore, and the piles of rubbish just make it worse," he said.
