Plus to introduce 22 new motorcycle shelters by 2024

KUALA LUMPUR: PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) will introduce 22 more motorcycle shelters by 2024.

Recognising the inherent risks faced by motorcyclists on highways, senior general manager of PLUS Operations, Mohd Yusuf Abdul Aziz emphasised the company's commitment to continually improve amenities for this group.

"We are prepared to add 22 more motorcycle shelters, comprising 6 standalone units and 16 beneath-bridge shelters. These additions will be progressively completed from this year until the second quarter of 2024.

"Motorcyclists are a segment that encounters various risks while on the highway. PLUS remains steadfast in enhancing the facilities provided for these riders on our expressways, ensuring their journeys are safer and more comfortable," said Mohd Yusuf.

Currently, the PLUS Expressway boasts 214 shelter facilities catering to motorcyclists. These include 28 standalone motorcycle shelters and 186 shelters located beneath bridges, providing protection from the elements.

Mohd Yusuf highlighted these developments in a recent statement, explaining, "We are dedicated to ensuring that motorcyclists have a safe haven, especially during adverse weather conditions or heavy rainfall."

Mohd Yusuf additionally urged motorcyclists not to seek shelter at rest areas, laybys, or nearby gas stations along the expressway during harsh weather. Instead, he advised them to stay behind guardrails in the designated sheltered areas for their safety.

He also emphasized the importance of refraining from stopping or congregating in emergency lanes unless absolutely necessary, in order to prevent unforeseen accidents.
