KOTA BARU: Three members of a family, including a five-year-old girl, were killed while two others were injured after the car they were travelling in was hit by a falling tree in Kok Lanas tonight.
The victims who died were car driver, Nik Mohd Zulmi Ramli, 44, his wife Nik Amirah Ab Rahman, 40 and their daughter Nik Aishah Azzahra.
The three of them died on the spot due to serious head and body injuries.
The other family members, Nik Adilia Zulaikha, 11 and Nik Adam Zarif, 9, sustained injuries and were rushed to the Machang Hospital for treatment.
A police spokesman said in the 8pm incident, the family was travelling in a Nissan Sentra car when tragedy struck.
Another car behind the victim's vehicle was also hit by the tree.
All five occupants of the car - a couple and their three children - escaped unhurt.
Police said the tree fell following heavy rain and strong wind since 6pm yesterday.
