Pahang cops prepare to deploy personnel, assets to face Pelangai by-election

KUANTAN: Pahang police are ready to mobilise their manpower and assets to the ground in anticipation of the Pelangai state seat by-election in Bentong.

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the force was waiting for the Election Commission (EC) to set the important dates for nomination, early-voting and polling day.

"The Pahang police contingent will be ready to be mobilised to the constituency for the by-election. Our preparation includes deploying police personnel to maintain public order and peace, and mobilising assets," he told reporters here today.

Yahaya was met after the wearing of rank and handing-over-of-duties ceremony for Pahang police deputy chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin, who previously served as the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (Pulapol) commandant.

Earlier today, Pahang Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsuddin handed the notice of vacancy of the Pelangai state seat following the death of its assemblyman, Datuk Seri Johari Harun, in an aircraft crash on Aug 17, to the Pahang EC director Datuk Zamree Hamli.

The EC will have to conduct a by-election within 60 days to fill the seat.

Johari, who is the Pahang Local Government, Housing, Environment, and Green Technology committee chairman, was killed after the aircraft he was on crashed in Bandar Elmina, Shah Alam on Aug 17.

He was travelling with seven others including two crew members in the six-seater Beechcraft Model 390 (Premier 1) from Langkawi to Subang Airport when the ill-fated crash occurred about 2.45pm.

The crash had killed all eight people onboard and two road users. All the victims have been buried.
