MARAN: A nine-year-old girl died after choking on a rambutan seed at her house in Kampung Sungai Ling Luar near Chenor here yesterday.
Maran police chief Deputy Superintendent Norzamri Abd Rahman said the department was alerted after a health officer from the Pekan Tajau clinic informed the police.
"The health officer contacted the police at 8pm saying a girl had died after she choked on a rambutan seed. The victim has been identified as Nur Iman Fitriah Muhamad Nizam.
"Doctors managed to remove the seed which was lodged in her throat. Post-mortem conducted at the Jengka Hospital revealed the victim suffered breathing difficulties resulting from the object stuck in her throat," he said in a statement.
Norzamri said the case was classified as sudden death (SDR) and Nur Iman Fitriah's remains were buried at the Bukit Cempedak burial ground at 11am today.
It is learnt that the victim was eating rambutans at home with her family members when the incident occurred.
