KUALA LUMPUR: There were a few eateries and restaurants in and around the Bukit Bintang area that were found to have kitchens that were dirty during an enforcement operation carried out by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (KL City Hall) last week.
This was the situation during the night enforcement operation carried out by KL City Hall on Sept 15.
KL City Hall issued a statement yesterday that three premises which were found to be dirty and filthy were ordered shut.
"There were 19 food and beverage (F&B) premises in the area that were inspected during the operation, where 18 premises were operational and one was not.
"Further checks and inspections carried out saw three of the premises ordered to close under the 2016 UUK 28(1) Food Establishment Licensing By-law (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur)," the statement said.
According to him, 29 compounds were issued during the operation for various offences.
"Action was taken for all sorts of offences specifically concerning the handling of raw materials, cooking equipment and cleanliness of the premises.
"Overall, the level of cleanliness observed during the operation was unsatisfactory," he said.
He added that there are still many eateries and restaurants who took the issue of cleanliness too lightly.
"If any of us were to pass the back section of these premises, you will definitely lose the appetite to eat.
"Therefore, we urge members of the public to be cautious and pay attention to the cleanliness rating of the the eatery or restaurant that they choose to eat at because the choice is theirs, it is in their hands," he said.
