KUALA LUMPUR: A 8-month-old baby girl died when she was left in a car parked at the Canselor Tuanku Muhriz Hospital (HCTM) in Cheras for 10 hours yesterday.
The girl was mistakenly left in the vehicle when her doctor mother went to work at HCTM thinking that she had already sent the child to a daycare centre.
Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Zam Halim Jamaluddin said the baby was found and brought in to HCTM in an unconscious state at 5.35pm before being declared dead.
"Based on initial investigations, the victim's mother had at 7.20am (on Thursday) placed the child in the rear passenger seat, on the left hand side, to send her to the daycare centre.
"However, the mother drove straight to the hospital, somehow thinking that she had already sent the child to the centre," he said in a statement.
Zam Halim said the mother only realised that the baby was still in the vehicle in the evening when her husband called to inform her that the child was not at the daycare centre.
"The case has been classified as a sudden death report, but further investigations are being carried out under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for negligence.
