SHAH ALAM: Malaysia has obtained its first 5G-powered Artificial Intelligence (AI) Autonomous Inventory Management System through a collaboration between CelcomDigi Berhad (CelcomDigi) and DHL Supply Chain Malaysia (DHL).
The collaboration leverages 5G technology and AI solutions for robotic inventory management systems, providing enhanced and efficient multi-story warehouse management at optimum standards.
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil described the collaboration as another milestone for Malaysian enterprises and the nation's 5G ecosystem.
He said with this technology, the warehousing and logistics industry has the potential to be reimagined and transformed into a "lights-out" warehouse, being able to operate around the clock by utilising 5G technology and AI solutions.
"I am pleased to know that CelcomDigi via its Innovation Centre will continue to spur collaborations with leading global adopters of the metaverse, AI and 5G-based technologies.
"The synergy between CelcomDigi and DHL today, which utilises the real value of 5G technology and solutions, together with AI and robotics, is on the right track to drive the growth of the nation's digital ecosystem.
"Aligned with the government's digital aspiration, Malaysia has the potential to be the Asian Digital Tiger," he said in his opening remarks at the launch the warehouse at DHL Supply Chain, here.
He said the utilisation of 5G technology will not only improve the livelihoods of all Malaysians but also drive the country towards a golden digital decade that spurs growth across all segments.
"More Malaysians will have the opportunity to be trained with the latest technologies and solutions, setting the stage for local talents to embrace digital innovation, which has limitless potential.
"With innovation and technology being utilised within and across industries, I look forward to more digital transformation initiatives, such as those implemented today."
Using autonomous drones, DHL carries out daily inventory management and operational tasks with automated stock-taking solutions and computer vision technologies independently and without human error.
The solution will enable efficient stock counting operations, achieving up to 20 times efficiency with up to 100 per cent precision and accuracy.
The solution also enhances space utilisation within the warehouse and reduces daily electricity consumption.
CelcomDigi chief executive officer Datuk Idham Nawawi said the collaboration will expand towards evaluating the implementation of 5G-powered AI autonomous drones and robotic inventory management systems in all DHL warehouses nationwide.
"We are reimagining warehouse logistics with improved efficiency of daily operations As two different industries, we embrace innovation and digital transformation through productivity and cutting-edge digital solutions.
Meanwhile, DHL Supply Chain Malaysia managing director Mario Lorenz added that collaboration marks the dawn of a new era in the world of logistics and telecommunications.
"Our 5G-powered AI Autonomous Inventory System is not just an achievement but a testament to what is possible when industry leaders join forces to push the boundaries of innovation," he said.
