IPOH: Three people were burnt to death after their car caught fire following an accident with a garbage truck at Bercham Industrial area here, last night.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations division assistant director, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said they received a distress call at 8.05pm yesterday and deployed a fire engine from Bercham to the scene.
"They were also assisted by a team of volunteer firemen from Bercham.
"Upon arrival, 95 per cent of the Proton Perdana had caught fire after it rammed into the rear of the garbage truck, which was estimated to be 50 per cent destroyed in the blaze.
"A crane had to be used to remove the garbage truck and once completely removed, firemen found that there were three people in the car.
"The firefighters had to douse the flames before using rescue tools to extricate the charred bodies from the mangled car," he said adding that the operation ended at 11.35pm.
He added that the bodies are yet to be identified and they were handed over to the police before being taken to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) here for post-mortem.
