Runaway garbage truck plows into three houses in Kajang

KAJANG: A garbage truck collecting waste veered out of control and crashed into three houses in Taman Bukit Mewah here yesterday, causing significant damage to the properties.

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof who confirmed the incident said fortunately no one was injured in the 3.40pm incident.

He said preliminary checks showed that the truck driver and three workers were on their routine to collect the garbage in the residential area when the driver suddenly lost control of the garbage truck.

"This had caused it to swerve to the right and plough into the front sections of three houses situated on the right," he said.

Naazron said the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"If found guilty, the driver could face a fine ranging between RM5,000 and RM10,000 and up to 12 months in prison.

"Police urged anyone with information related to the incident to assist in the investigation by contacting Sergeant Izzatul Aira at 017-2737696," he said.

He also advised the public, including heavy vehicle drivers, to practice responsible and cautious driving to prevent such incidents.
