Kuala Krai crash victim succumbs to serious burns after 8 days in hospital

KUALA KRAI: The car driver who suffered severe burn injuries throughout his body in last month's fiery car crash which killed his 7-month-old baby last month, died today.

Wan Shahrizat Azwan Wan Shahril breathed his last in the intensive care unit of the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital (HRPZ) about 10.45am.

Deputy district police chief, Deputy Superintendent Kamarulzaman Harun said the 28-year-old victim died eight days after being admitted to the hospital.

"He was first admitted to the Sultan Ismail Petra hospital here after the Nov 27 incident.

"He was then transferred to HRPZ in Kota Baru the following day due to his serious injuries," he said when contacted.

In the incident, Wan Shahrizat Azwan was travelling with his wife Nur Hasidah Razmi, 25, and their daughter Wan Sabeena Arisha when their vehicle, a Honda Jazz, hit a lamp post and caught fire in front of a bank on Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Krai.

Wan Sabeena Arisha was found lying near their vehicle while her father was seriously burned, and her mother suffered minor injuries.

The three were heading to Pengkalan Chepa when the crash occurred at around 4.40am.
