Chegubard's bank account frozen for suspected terrorist-related transactions

SEREMBAN: Badrul Hisham Shaharin's bank account has been frozen for suspected terrorist-related transactions.

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) information committee member, also known as Chegubard, said he only realised that his account was frozen after not being able to access it.

"Tonight there will be a gathering and lecture on Palestine organised by Pas Johor. As usual, (I would) set aside money for fuel and toll in advance.

"When I was trying to top up my Touch 'n Go for RFID via Maybank2u it is not possible, they said I have reached the transaction limit.

"It's unlikely that with a balance of RM619 there could be a limit. I thought perhaps there was a problem with the app, but after calculating fuel, tolls, I remembered that I have not paid my Maxis phone bill so I paid that first because it was overdue," he added.

He confirmed his Facebook posting to Berita Harian on the matter, and said when he tried to pay his phone bill, his bank account could no longer be accessed.

Badrul Hisham then contacted the bank which requested him to go to their nearest branch.

"But when I checked my account balance, it went up RM619 to RM1,979. There were many small deposits made," he said, adding that this led to the bank suspecting terrorist activity.

In the comment section of the posting, he said he was very surprised when he realised that the deposits since midnight amounted to RM268,000, but they were unsuccessful as the bank froze the transactions.

"To everyone, I deeply appreciate your support, and it gives me strength to continue the struggle. However, the total amount that went into the account is only RM1,390.

"I seek your permission, ladies and gentlemen, to extend your kind donations as contributions for Ramadan later," he said.

Badrul Hisham is facing legal action filed by Community Communications Department (J-Kom) staff Abdul Wahab Abdul Kader Jilani.

In January, Abdul Wahab filed a defamation suit, seeking RM5 million in aggravated and exemplary damages.

Abdul Wahab claimed that the defendant had made a defamatory statement by uploading a video in his Facebook account suggesting the plaintiff and former J-Kom director-general Dr Mohammad Agus Yusoff were engaged in a sexually-explicit conversation.

In a Facebook post yesterday, Badrul Hisham advertised his Toyota Hilux truck for sale to pay off small debts.

He said although the vehicle was important to him, the decision to sell his truck was made because he saw it as the best way to continue his struggles after efforts to seek assistance from several leaders yielded no response.

"I have reached out to several leaders, but received no response. I also tried to borrow, but couldn't. Perhaps everyone is going through tough times," he said.

"So I had to sell my truck to manage (my debts). RM7,000 plus RM15,000 for court proceedings and lawyer fees.

"My family and I are in a tight spot, but InsyaAllah, I can still work and do business. Whoever wants to support, please don't donate money,

"I am still capable of working. My latest venture is selling sambal while doing some odd jobs," he said.
