KUALA LUMPUR: The Women's March Malaysia 2024 (WMMY 2024) will proceed as planned on March 9, according to its organising committee, after successfully serving its notice of assembly to the Dang Wangi district police.
In a statement today, the organising committee said after four failed attempts to serve the notice failed last week, today they finally managed to send the papers in.
"Four attempts were made last week but all failed without proper reason from the police. Today, we succeeded and appreciate the cooperation of the officers at IPD Dang Wangi.
"The WMMY 2024 organising committee issued a press release yesterday detailing our previous unsuccessful attempts where the police had refused to officially stamp our documents.
"However, these same documents were submitted today and were acknowledged and accepted by the officer in charge," it said, adding that the gathering would be its 8th annual march held in conjunction with the International Women's Day.
The assembly will gather at Sogo KL before marching towards Dataran Merdeka.
"This year, we will be marching on the streets of Kuala Lumpur with 10 demands and enthusiasm for justice and change. We aim to bring together people from all walks of life to call for gender equality, justice, and an end to all forms of discrimination against women and girls" it said.
Among the 10 demands championed are calling for the end of all forms of violence and discrimination towards gender and sexual minorities, the implementation of comprehensive sex education to protect and empower children's rights and ensure equal opportunities and participation for all at all levels of decision-making in political life.
