Pakistani man drowns after being swept away by water column

SUNGAI BULOH: A Pakistani man drowned after being swept away by a water column, while his friend is still missing in an incident in a river near the Sungai Buloh camp yesterday.

Remains of the 27-year-old man were found at 1.12pm today.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (operations) assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said they received a distress call at 5.08pm yesterday before a seven-man team was deployed to the scene.

"According to witnesses, two men were seen on the river ledge before being swept away by the water column and disappearing.

"The search operation covers the surface area towards Jalan Haji Baei, as well as the deployment of Water Rescue Team (PPDA) unit and K9 tracker dogs," he said in a statement today.

Mukhlis said the body of the first victim was found near the Jalan Rahidin bridge, about two kilometres from the scene.

The victim's remains were handed to the police while the search for the second victim continues.

He said the search area was expanded to Jambatan Kubu Gajah but was halted at 5.30pm due to rain.
