PUTRAJAYA: A total of 11,713, or 3.1 per cent, of the 373,525 candidates who sat for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2023 examination obtained straight As.
Education director-general Azman Adnan said this year, a better National Average Grade (GPN) score of 4.6 was recorded compared to 4.74 last year.
A lower GPN value indicates better candidate achievement in the examination.
Azman said 83,112 candidates, or 22.3 per cent, obtained average results with at least a grade C for all subjects.
He said that 131,489, or 35.2 percent, of the candidates who sat for the 2023 SPM examination passed, while 119,393 candidates, or 32 per cent, failed at least one subject.

"About 226,358 candidates or 60.6 per cent passed at least all their subjects compared to 213,624 or 57.1 per cent of candidates from 2022.
"From the total number of candidates who sat for SPM 2023, 26,351 or 7.0 per cent obtained combination results and only 1,467 or 0.4 per cent of candidates obtained all failed results," said Azman at the press conference announcing the SPM 2023 result analysis, here today.
Furthermore, Azman said that this year's Gred Purata Mata Pelajaran (GPMP) compared to 2022 shows that 66 subjects have recorded an increase in performance, 25 subjects show a decrease in performance and four subjects are maintained.
He said the Pendidikan Moral subject increased by 0.30 points among the core subjects, while Bahasa Melayu maintained a GPMP of 3.86 points, and the other core subjects also showed an increase in GPMP.
"Meanwhile, all four elective STEM subjects - Physics, Additional Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry - have shown an increase in performance.
Physics exhibited the most significant improvement with an increase of 0.22 points, making it one of the best-performing subjects with a GPMP of 4.15 points," he said.
Azman added that the SPM 2023 performance between urban and rural areas showed improvement; however, the achievement gap between candidates remained at 0.43 points, the same as in SPM 2022.
Candidates of SPM 2023 can obtain their exam results from their respective schools starting at 10am today.
Additionally, all candidates including private can check their results online at myresultspm.moe.my or through SMS by typing SPMNoKPAngkaGiliran and sending it to 15888.
The system will be activated from 10am today until 6pm on June 2.
