BEAUFORT: A retired female teacher was bound when a burglary occurred at her house at Kampung Datung Melabau here yesterday.
During the 2.40am incident, the assailant escaped with a gold bracelet, RM2,300 in cash, and a handbag containing the victim's identification documents.
District Police chief, Deputy Superintendent Ismail Abdullah said at the time of the incident, the 58-year-old victim had just finished praying and noticed a figure passing by her window.
He said that when the victim checked the kitchen door, she was shocked to see an unknown man wearing a helmet with a visor covering his face standing in front of the door.
"The victim immediately closed the kitchen door, but the suspect forced it open, causing the victim to fall.
"The suspect then bound the victim's hands behind her back using clear cellophane tape and took her to the bedroom," he said when contacted today.
He added that the suspect threatened to kill the victim if she called for help.
"The suspect then took a gold bracelet the victim was wearing, and two handbags on the dining table containing the victim's identification documents.
"The suspect also took RM2,300 in cash, with a total loss estimated at RM12,700," he said.
Ismail stated that further investigation revealed that the victim was a retired teacher.
"The hunt for the suspect is ongoing, and the case is being investigated under Sections 394/506 of the Penal Code.
"The police also urge anyone with information about the incident to contact the Beaufort District Police Headquarters (IPD) to assist in the investigation," he said.
