Elderly passenger and motorcyclist killed in 4-vehicle accident

BEAUFORT: Two people, including an elderly passenger, died in a four-vehicle accident at Kilometer 41, Jalan Beaufort - Menumbok, near the Jalan Kilugus Tangulian intersection. 

A 73-year old female passenger in a car and a 23-year old motorcyclist were killed in the incident which occurred at 3.27pm yesterday.

District police chief deputy superintendent Ismail Abdullah said the accident involved a lorry, a car, and two motorcycles.

He added that the lorry and car were travelling towards Menumbok from Beaufort, while the two motorcycles were coming from the opposite direction.

"When they reached the Jalan Kilugus Tangulian intersection, the lorry suddenly slowed down and attempted to turn right.

"A car coming from the same direction could not avoid the lorry and collided with its right rear, causing the car to overturn and hit the two motorcycles coming from the opposite direction," he said when contacted today.

According to him, seven injured victims were taken to Kuala Penyu Hospital for further treatment.

"The motorcyclist and the elderly female passenger in the car were confirmed dead while receiving treatment at Kuala Penyu Hospital.

"The lorry driver was not injured," he added.

He stated that the investigation is ongoing and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (RTA) 1987.
