Tanker lorry overturns, causing 10 km traffic congestion on Plus highway near Rembau

REMBAU: A tanker lorry carrying palm oil overturned and blocked the 243rd kilometre (km) of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound, causing a 10 km traffic congestion.

The accident, which occurred around noon today, resulted in the spilling of palm oil on the expressway.

According to a spokesperson from the Negeri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre, 14 personnel from the Rembau and Senawang Fire and Rescue Stations were deployed to the scene immediately after receiving information at 12.29pm.

"The accident involved a tanker lorry carrying palm oil, which is believed to have skidded before hitting the road divider.

"A Malay man in his thirties was trapped in the driver's seat area but was successfully rescued by the operations team," said the spokesperson today.

Meanwhile, PLUS announced on its social media platform that the accident had also involved five other cars.

As of 2.48pm, the southbound middle lane and the northbound right and middle lanes were still blocked.

"Traffic was congested for 9.5 km northbound and is moving slowly for 8 km southbound."
