KUALA LUMPUR: The Jalan Cheras flyover, which was suspected to have a crack, has been confirmed to be sturdy and safe.
The Works Ministry, in a statement, said this follows an immediate on-site inspection conducted last night by the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA), the Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway concessionaire, and a consultant, which found no cracks in the structure.
The investigation results on the related structure found that it was merely black marks on the surface of the 'crosshead' concrete, it said.
"The construction method of this 'crosshead portal' involves 'multiple casting', and black marks had accumulated at the 'dry joint'.
"These black marks were confirmed not to be cracks as rumoured.
"The structural integrity has been confirmed to be strong and safe after the investigation," the statement read.
It said the Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway concessionaire was always committed to prioritising safety aspects, especially for highway structures, by continuously conducting periodic inspections to ensure the safety of users.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi also visited the location of the reported suspected crack and was given a detailed explanation regarding the black marks on the concrete surface.
Previously, Alexander, in a post on X yesterday, instructed the relevant authorities to inspect the cracks on the structure of the flyover.
He also reposted a social media user who pointed out the "visible cracks" in the structure of the flyover.
"Are the cracks on the flyover getting wider?" asked the social media user.
The posting was accompanied by two pictures showing a comparison of the flyover in April and this month.
