Kedah govt to provide 5000 sq feet housing plots for the needy

KUBANG PASU: Kedah is committed to helping those in need to secure their own homes through the 'Kedah Sejahtera-Nikmat Untuk Semua' housing policy.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor announced that district officers have been tasked with identifying state-owned land for the development of housing projects.

He said that each housing plot will be approximately 5000 square feet.

"We will provide comprehensive amenities in these housing areas, including water and electricity supply, roads, and a well-organised drainage system, so residents can live in a well-structured community.

"Eligible individuals can apply and will be screened to ensure that only those who truly need it will receive the assistance," he said during his speech at the key handover ceremony for the Rumah Sejahtera Project in Binjal here today.

Sanusi said that the initiative is part of the state government's efforts to ensure every family in Kedah can live in a healthy and prosperous environment.

"We hope that this kind of support will encourage those in need to work harder and improve their circumstances for a better life.

"We also hope that the children will focus on their studies and excel," he added.

Earlier, Sanusi handed over replica keys to 50 recipients of the Rumah Sejahtera Semi-D houses, each measuring 750 square feet in Binjal.

He said that the houses were built on 1.8 hectares of land donated by the Kedah State Development Corporation (PKNK) and was also funded by the federal government.

"These houses are sold at only RM36,000 per unit, significantly lower than the market price.

"The federal government allocated RM5,169,900 for this project, but the total cost was RM5,712,655. This means PKNK covered the additional costs to complete the project," he added.
