KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms and strong winds are expected in several states till 5pm today, warns the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
The inclement weather will affect Perlis, the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya, as well as Negri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor.
MetMalaysia said in a Facebook post that the warning included Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu in Kedah.
"In Perak, the warning covers Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Perak Tengah and Kampar), while in Kelantan only Jeli, Tanah Merah and Kuala Krai.
"Bad weather is expected in Terengganu (Hulu Terengganu and Dungun) and in Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron and Rompin)," it said.
In Selangor, the warning affects Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang.
The warning in Sarawak covers Betong, Sarikei (Pakan), Kapit (Kapit and Belaga), Bintulu (Bintulu and Sebauh), Miri (Subis, Beluru and Marudi) and Limbang.
Affected areas in Sabah include interior regions (Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Keningau and Tambunan), Pantai Barat, Tawau (Kunak and Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Kinabatangan, Beluran, and Sandakan) and Kudat.
"The warning is issued when there are signs indicating thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm an hour that are expected to last for an hour or more.
"A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for each issuance," the statement read.
