NIBONG TEBAL: Perikatan Nasional's candidate for the Sungai Bakap by-election, Abidin Ismail, today unveiled his manifesto with the acronym "Kerja" (work).
K refers to "Khidmat Kepada Masyarakat" (service to the people), E refers "Ekonomi dan Peluang Pekerjaan" (economy and employment opportunity), R refers to "Rangkaian Infrastruktur" (Infrastructure network), J refers to "Jaminan Mengutamakan Rakyat" (guarantee to always put the people first) and A refers to "Amanah dan Integriti (trust and integrity).
The manifesto has 15 main thrusts under five pillars.
Speaking at the unveiling of the manifesto here today, Abidin said some of the thrusts were already being carried out the late assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff, when he won the seat in the state elections last year.
He said one example was to bring the voices of the people to the state legislative assembly.
"I will fine tune, strengthen and further improve on it.
"All these are ongoing," he said at the late Zamri's service centre here.
The manifesto was unveiled by state Pas commissioner Muhammad Fauzi Yusoff.
Fauzi said a report card on Abidin's performance, if voted in as the assemblyman, would be made public for the voters, including through social media.
"Our manifesto is our commitment to the people here that we will continue to work and serve them.
"We will use the remaining three days of campaigning to explain to the people what we have done and what we will be doing, moving forward," he added.
Meanwhile, Abidin said the response from people of all walks of life has been encouraging throughout campaigning.
"I can sense a shift among voters in our favour.
"There is no need to say how many per cent but the situation looks positive.
"Let's wait for a surprise," he said.
Abidin is engaged in a straight fight with Pakatan Harapan's Dr Joohari Ariffin.
Polling has been fixed for July 6.
Last Saturday, Joohari launched its manifesto comprising four pillars.
Underpinning his "perPADUan" (unity) manifesto is the promise of fairness to constituents.
Upgraded infrastructure, free tuition, eliminating poverty and a resolution to citizenship issues in Sungai Bakap were part of Joohari's manifesto promises for the state seat by-election.
