The last 'gentleman' in deserted Seremban mall [WATCH]

SEREMBAN: For the most part, the halls of Wisma Punca Emas are quiet and shrouded in darkness.

But the lights remain on for one trader, Chiew Chea Cheong, 69, who runs "Gentleman's Tailor", a business he started in the mall 41 years ago.

Then, it was among the more popular malls in the city. Since 2000, its tenants moved their businesses to newer developments that sprouted up as Seremban's grew.

"Then in 2018, there was a fire and many tenants had to move out as it affected the electricity supply," he told Harian Metro.

Today, even in the daytime, the building is in darkness as there is no electricity.

In the aftermath of the fire, only Chiew and a doctor kept their premises open, relying on a shared generator set for electricity.

"A few years ago, the doctor closed his clinic because of old age.

"Now I am the only one left, I don't even need to pay rent anymore."

Chiew, who opens his shop from 11am to 6pm, caters to his loyal customers from all walks of life, aided only by two old sewing machines.

He says he earns enough to get by and does not need to worry about feeding his family as all his children are grown up and working.

Asked whether he feels afraid being the only one in the dark building, Chiew said he is already used to it, adding some days, his friends drop by to spend time with him.
