Policemen arrested for allegedly extorting burger seller released on bail but will face disciplinary action

KLANG: The two policemen arrested for allegedly extorting a burger seller have been released on bail.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the two suspects have been released on police bail as further investigations were being conducted.

"The investigation paper is being completed and will be referred to the deputy public prosecutors office soon.

"According to our standard operating procedures, both of them will also be facing disciplinary action which includes being suspended from active duty," he said today.

It was reported that two policemen were arrested for allegedly extorting money from a 22-year-old part-time burger seller in Klang.

On Aug 6 at around 1.10am, the complainant was riding a motorcycle to deliver three burgers to a customer in Bukit Tinggi Klang.

He was then stopped by police officers in a patrol car on the Kesas Highway, approximately 500 metres before the exit to Bandar Puteri.

During the inspection, the policemen allegedly requested a sum of cash to avoid the complainant's motorcycle from being seized.

The motorcycle's road tax had expired on March 15, 2013, and the policemen used this violation as a pretext to demand money from the complainant.

The complainant placed RM90 in a plastic bag containing the burgers and handed it over to them.

Police from the D7 branch of the South Klang Criminal Investigation Department arrested the policemen involved and seized related evidence on Aug 7, at around 7pm.
