DAP lawmaker demands 'Tan Sri' title be stripped from Muhyiddin

KUANTAN: A DAP lawmaker has called for the revocation of former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's "Tan Sri" title, urging that stern action be taken against him for spreading misleading information.

Pahang legislative assembly deputy speaker and state DAP secretary Lee Chin Chen said that the "Tan Sri" honour was reserved for individuals who genuinely uphold noble values and respect the principles of the nation.

"Muhyiddin should set a good example and adhere to the principles of the constitution. Unfortunately, he chose to spread wrong and misleading information, proving that he is not qualified to hold the title (Tan Sri).

"Muhyiddin's action not only tarnishes the royal institution but also has the potential to destroy the people's trust in the constitutional democracy that we practise. I urge for the withdrawal of the 'Tan Sri' title as a strong stance to protect the country's dignity and sovereignty," he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Lee said Muhyiddin's statement yesterday claiming that his speech during the Nenggiri by-election was based on facts and he remains innocent despite accusing the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for not appointing him as the prime minister, was another irresponsible statement that misleads the public.

"Muhyiddin's statement is not only challenging the King's decision but appears to create confusion among the people," he said.

Yesterday, Muhyiddin earned the ire of the Pahang palace when Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah expressed his anger saying the Perikatan Nasional chairman deliberately belittled the role of the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah during his reign as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Meanwhile, Pahang Umno liaison chairman Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail supported Tengku Hassanal's call for police action against Muhyiddin.

"We are outraged by Muhyiddin's statements, which we believe were made in bad faith and aim to incite distrust towards the institution of the Malay Rulers and sow division among the people," he said.

"His remarks have created discord and offended the people of Pahang, who honour the sovereignty of the Sultan and the royal institution."
