Unifi disruption caused by cable theft, connection restored, says TM

KUALA LUMPUR: Unifi Internet outage, which affected some 4,000 users in Kepong, was caused by illegal cable theft, said Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM).

In a statement, it said its technical teams had been working around the clock on-site.

"Approximately 80 per cent of the affected connections have been successfully restored as of now, and efforts are ongoing to bring the remaining users back online.

"The affected users are also being informed of the expected recovery times through notifications," read the statement.

Earlier, several users took to social media to voice their complaints about sudden Internet disruptions, leaving many of them frustrated.

User @notMimie2 said it had been difficult for her to work as she had been unable to connect to the Internet for two weeks, even though she had tried sitting right next to the router.

Similarly, user @reenaputeri said the Internet connection had been slow for weeks, and it suddenly went down today.

"They said they detected (the issue with the Internet connection) before office hours ended, and now they'll only come to fix the port on Monday.

If we're without the Internet for three to four days, who will compensate for this 'no service' bill?

"With the extended holiday, I can't even watch television shows (as there's no Internet connection), let alone enjoy the Merdeka parade.

"Watching on a small phone screen, and even the hotspot is barely working," she said.

Meanwhile, user @Dannial002 tagged the official Unifi account on X (previously known as Twitter), complaining about the sudden loss of internet connection while he played the game.

"Please fix your line, I want to play Valorant (online game), but it keeps going over 200ms ping," he said on Twitter.

His post prompted replies from others who also appeared to be playing online games, which saw ping rates soar beyond 200ms, and even reached a staggering 400ms for some.

User @memehcepol added that the Wi-Fi was unavailable since 10pm last night without prior notice from Unifi.
