Family mulls suing confinement centre over baby's death [WATCH]

KOTA BARU: The family of a one-month-old baby who died at a confinement centre on Monday is considering suing the facility for alleged neglect and abuse.

The baby's father, Choo Kamin, said they may proceed with legal action after viewing CCTV footage from the centre. However, Choo, who owns a digital marketing agency, said they will wait for the police investigation to be completed first.

"Watching the footage was heartbreaking. Initially, we thought our son died from choking on milk, as claimed by the worker there. But the reality was shocking, which is why we've decided to file a second police report," said the 30-year-old at his home in Desa Kujid.

Choo, accompanied by his 29-year-old wife Yap Pei Yin and his 60-year-old mother Gan Pheck Chin, said their first child, named Choo Jyn Hern, was born on Aug 11.

Pei Yin said they engaged the confinement centre's services four days after Jyn Hern's birth for a 28-day treatment. The incident occurred just a day before the treatment was set to end.

Pheck Chin said the family is devastated by the loss of their first grandchild.

"It's unbearable, especially for my son and daughter-in-law, who had been trying for three years to have a baby. We hope the police will investigate thoroughly and hold those responsible accountable."

The family received a visit from Kota Baru assemblyman Dr Hafidzah Mustakim who conveyed her condolences to the family for their loss.

Earlier, a 22-year-old nurse was arrested in connection with the baby's death and is currently remanded for seven days to assist investigations.
