Heavy rain causes drainage wall to collapse [WATCH]

KOTA TINGGI: Residents were left in shock as heavy rain caused a drainage wall to suddenly collapse in Taman Sri Saujana here today.

A resident, Rohana Sulaiman, 44, said that she heard what sounded like an explosion before the wall gave way.

She said after the collapse, soil erosion began, leaving the wall of her family's home hanging precariously with no ground beneath it.

Fortunately, all family members were safe following the incident, which occurred earlier this afternoon.

Rohana said that the landslide happened beside their house due to the continuous heavy rain.

"Previously, the area experienced minor erosion, but it wasn't severe, and the authorities had covered it with canvas.

"Now, with the rainy season in full swing, we're worried that other parts of the house might collapse, which could result in not just property loss but also lives.

"We haven't been able to sleep well whenever it rains, and with the situation worsening, it's even more unsettling," she said.

She said they felt relieved that their local representative visited their home to assess the damage and will be raising the matter with the relevant authorities.

She added that the authorities had also installed safety barriers around the damaged section of the house.

"We hope immediate action will be taken before the situation worsens. This issue needs urgent attention," she said.

Earlier, a video of the collapsed wall went viral among the local community.

The heavy rain, which started at 1.30pm, also caused flooding at the park's recreational lake and along the main road.
