POKOK SENA: "We had just finished cleaning our houses last Saturday after the floods hit on Sept 18.
"Before we could rest, our house was suddenly flooded for the second time yesterday," said Siti Leha Man, 76, at her house in Kampung Empa here today.
Siti Leha and her son, Mohd Nazmi Ismail, 36, had been evacuated to a temporary evacuation centre in Pokok Sena when the floods hit and returned home three days later.
She said it took them about a week to clean both inside and outside of the houses.
"But we didn't expect the water to rise inside the house and in the yard after Maghrib prayers on Saturday.
"Although it has started to recede today, I am sad to see the floors and other belongings get dirty and wet again, and I really don't have the strength to clean the house anymore," she said.
Siti Leha added that she struggled to lift heavy items due to her old age and various health issues.
She noted that the furniture and belongings in her house had been submerged during both the first and second floods.
"For now, we will wait and see until the water fully recedes. We need to gather our strength and spirit before we can clean the house," she said.
Her son, Mohd Nazmi, said it took them about a week to clean the house after the first flood.
On Saturday afternoon, they had just finished cleaning both houses completely, but that night the waters rose again.
"Many items were damaged, such as the refrigerator and wooden cabinets. During the first flood, the water level was waist-deep, while this time it was calf-deep," he said.
He hopes the second flood recedes quickly and that assistance can be provided to affected victims.
Meanwhile, the number of flood victims in Kedah has risen to 1,384 from 444 families as of 4pm today, compared to 1,359 from 436 families at 8am this morning.
The highest number of victims is in Pokok Sena, with 737 people, followed by Kota Setar with 410 people and Kubang Pasu with 284 people.
