Floods: Two relief centres in Johor closed

JOHOR BARU: The number of flood evacuees in the state showed a downward trend today, with 1,009 victims still taking shelter at temporary relief centres (PPS), compared to 1,062 yesterday.

As of noon, two of the 20 PPS — one in Segamat and the other in Tangkak — were closed as those taking shelter there were allowed to return to their homes.

State Secretary and Johor Disaster Management Committee chairman Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani attributed the decreasing trend to the absence of rain in the flooded areas, despite today's forecast predicting cloudy weather.

Sunny weather was forecasted in Johor Baru, Batu Pahat, Kota Tinggi, and Kulai, while Segamat is cloudy, but it rained in Tangkak.

Segamat and Tangkak were the two districts hit hardest with flash floods. Rain was also forecaste in Muar and Pontian.

Despite the improving flood conditions, Jalan Kuala Paya-Balai Badang and Jalan Tuman in Segamat are still closed to all vehicles, while Jalan Serakek, also in Segamat, is accessible to heavy vehicles only.
