JOHOR BARU: An immigration officer has received public praise for his honesty in returning RM1,500 cash to its rightful owner.
In a Facebook post, Sukie Tay expressed her gratitude to the officer from the state Immigration Department and described him as honest and dedicated.
"I want to take a moment to express my deepest thanks to a truly honest and dedicated Johor Immigration officer.
"Recently, mother-in-law lost RM1,500 while travelling, and thanks to the officer's integrity and efforts, the money was returned after it was found.
"In times like this, it's heartwarming to know that there are still people out there who go above and beyond to help others.
"I am incredibly grateful for this officer's honesty and professionalism.
Meanwhile, the Johor Immigration Department took to its official Facebook page to commend Mohamad Farqrulrazi Rahmad, an immigration officer from the Media Unit of the Communication and Corporate Department at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) Immigration Department office, for his exemplary service.
"He found a sum of cash in an envelope belonging to Eng Kuat Li, who is from Johor.
"The cash, consisting of Malaysian ringgit and Singapore dollars totalling nearly RM2,000, is believed to have been lost while the woman was at the Immigration Checkpoint at the JB Sentral Railway Station around 11.30am yesterday.
"The money was said to be a gift from her child when she first started working in Singapore a few years ago, and she expressed immense relief when it was successfully recovered," they said.
They added that Eng, who returned to Johor Baru at 6pm yesterday, was accompanied by the BSI Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex deputy Immigration head R. Vimala to JB Sentral immigration checkpoint office to retrieve the cash.
