BALING: Villagers of Kampung Binjul Luar were alarmed by flash floods last night, reviving fears of the severe flood that struck the village five years ago.
Some 20 houses were inundated by 9pm, following over an hour of heavy downpour.
Villager Suriati Saad, 48, said she and her husband were away when the floods struck.
"I rushed home after receiving a phone call from my neighbour alerting me that my house was flooded.
"We were shocked to see that our house was inundated with knee-deep water upon arrival home.
"All our furniture and electrical appliances placed on the floor are affected," she said.
Suriati said the village, located behind the Bukit Hijau Eco Park, is a flood-prone area.
However, this is amongst the worst the villagers have experienced in recent years.
"Several houses that were previously hardly hit by the flash floods are also affected this time around," she said.
Several villagers had to seek temporary shelter at the village's mosque before the floodwaters began receding by midnight.
The main road connecting to the village was also closed for over an hour after the floodwaters submerged it.
