Body of groom-to-be found drowned in third day of search

SUNGAI PETANI: The body of Muhammad Aiman Safwan Mahadzir, 25, who went missing after falling into a river at Pasar Bisik, Kota Kuala Muda, was found on the third day of search efforts.

Kedah Fire and Rescue Department Senior Fire Officer I Wan Mohd Hamizi Wan Mohd Zin confirmed that the victim's body was found washed ashore at 11.50am today, about 1.5 kilometres from where he was last seen.

"Today's operation involved surface searches within a radius of 1.5 to 2 nautical miles, starting from 10.03am. The victim's body was found and then handed over to the police," he said in a statement today.

The victim's mother, Rosnah Razali, 48, shared that her eldest son of three siblings was due to wed his fiance, Nur Farhana Abd Syukur, 23, in January next year, with much of the preparation already completed.

"Aiman was a kind-hearted son, never one to rebel, and everyone loved him for his helpful nature," she said.

Meanwhile, Nur Farhana said they had planned to visit the health clinic on the day of the incident for an HIV screening as a required step before their wedding.

"The last message I received from Aiman was at 11.30am, telling me he was heading for the screening while I prepared to meet him there.

"Around 1pm, Aiman's mother called, informing me he had fallen into the sea. I was stunned and rushed to the location," she added.

Yesterday, the media reported that a man was feared drowned after falling into the river at Pasar Bisik, Kota Kuala Muda, on Sunday.

However, rough seas and heavy rain hampered search efforts, delaying the search until today.
