Flood evacuees surge to 2,765 in Terengganu

KUALA TERENGGANU: The number of flood-affected residents in Terengganu has surged to 2,765 as of 8am today, compared to 411 evacuees recorded at midnight.

A total of 603 families were evacuated and are currently sheltered in 14 temporary relief centres (PPS) across five districts.

The Terengganu State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) secretariat reported that Dungun has become the fifth flood-affected district, with one PPS activated at midnight to shelter five evacuees from one family.

The five flood-affected districts now encompass Kemaman, Marang, Hulu Terengganu, Setiu, and Dungun.

Kemaman remains the most severely impacted district, with 2,584 evacuees from 554 families housed across five PPS.

Hulu Terengganu follows with six PPS accommodating 94 evacuees from 25 families.

In Setiu, one PPS is providing shelter to 69 evacuees from 19 families, while Marang's single PPS is housing 13 evacuees from four families.

Ongoing rainfall continues across multiple areas of the state, with evacuation numbers showing an upward trajectory.
