RTD helmet exchange sees 600 helmets snapped up within an hour

KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department's (RTD) helmet exchange programme continues to receive an overwhelming response, with more than half of the 1,000 helmets snapped up within an hour of the booth opening at the Madani government's second-anniversary event today.

Its deputy director-general (Planning and Operations), Datuk Jazmanie Shafawi, said a total of 2,000 helmets will be available today, with 1,000 distributed during the morning session and the remaining 1,000 in the afternoon session, which will begin at around 2pm.

He added that 600 helmet exchanges were processed within an hour during the morning session after the RTD booth opened at 9am.

"The RTD booth has been very well received, especially the helmet exchange programme.

"It is understood that visitors began queuing as early as 7.30am to exchange their helmets," he said when met at the department's booth at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today.

Asked whether RTD would add more helmets, Jazmanie said they are offering a total of 5,000 helmets throughout the three-day event and will consider expanding the helmet exchange programme in the future.

In addition to the helmet exchange, the booth also offers summons checks, registration for the MyJPJ system, and road safety advocacy services.

As of 10.30am, checks by the New Straits Times at the booth showed that RTD had cleared the queue for the morning session of helmet exchanges.
