Johor floods: Evacuee numbers surge daily, 1,051 seeking shelter at 20 centres

JOHOR BARU: Segamat and Tangkak remain the two most affected flash-flood districts in Johor, with 1,051 victims evacuated to 20 relief centres today.

There are 18 centres in Segamat with 898 victims, where villages in Buloh Kasap have been hit hardest.

The Malaysian Metrology Department (MetMalaysia) has forecast rain in Tangkak, Mersing, Pontian and Muar.

Eleven rivers are on alert warnings, including Sungai Muar in Kampung Tekam and Buloh Kasap in Segamat. Sungai Tangkak in Kampung Seri Ma'amor, Tangkak, has breached its limit.

State Secretary and Johor Disaster Management Committee chairman Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani said despite the rising number of victims evacuated to relief centres, the situation in Johor remains under control.

"All victims from 302 families in the two relief centres are well-cared for, while their houses are secured by the enforcement agencies, against any untoward incidents,' he said.
